A black aluminum ring wrapped in electroplated glass, three and a third inches deep and nothing more. The glass takes the LED and gives it back with a slight grain, so the ring has texture rather than the flat glow of an acrylic diffuser. Three diameters, the largest of which is over three feet and asks for a room to match.

Match the ring to roughly half the width of what sits beneath it: 23.6 inches over a table for four, 31.5 over six, 39.4 over eight or an open-plan seating group. Hang it 30 to 34 inches above a dining surface; the 59-inch cord gives room to go lower in a stairwell. The remote-dimmable option is the one to choose if the room does more than one job.
