Sizing & placement

Over a round table, match the fixture to roughly half the tabletop width; the 25.6- and 31.5-inch circles suit most dining rooms. For a rectangular table or a long island, the 39.4- and 47.2-inch linear versions read better than a circle. Hang the base 30 to 36 inches above the surface, and allow for the fixture's weight when choosing a ceiling box.
